Girl Online Book Review

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to be doing a book review on Zoella's (aka Zoe Sugg) new book, Girl Online. I borrowed my cousins copy and I can safely say that this book is up there with my favourite books alongside The Fault In Our Stars, also written by a YouTuber, and Lament, written by Maggie Steifvater. Girl Online successfully captured the day-to-day problems of a typical teenage girl and it was so relatable aswell. The anxiety aspect definitely helped to make the book more appealing and understandable as it is something many teenage girls go through. The book also less notably teaches how to deal with anxiety as it explains how Penny overcomes her panic attacks.

In summary, the book is about a 15 year-old girl called Penny who lives in Brighton with her parents and her brother Tom. Penny is the author of an anonymous blog called Girl Online. Here she writes about all her issues and tries to help others who are experiencing the same thing. At home in Brighton, she experiences many ordeals in relation to friendships and she also has to go through a horrible, humiliating time where a video of her tripping and displaying her knickers to the school goes viral. Her best friend Elliot is always there to console her and he even accompanies her to New York when the Mum is asked to plan a wedding there. This meant Penny had to leave behind her crush, Ollie and her other friends. Her anxiety doesn't get any better, in fact it seems to worsen at the thought of going on a plane and going to a different country. However, when she gets to New York, Penny's life is turned around when she meets a boy called Noah whom she falls in live with and he helps her with her anxiety. She stays in New York for a couple  of weeks and her and Noah develop a strong relationship between them. When Penny leaves New York she thought her and Noah would be finished but a huge event occurs which results in a totally different outcome. I am not going to reveal this in case you haven't read the book!

The main character, Penny is a quiet and shy girl who always seems to mess up at the wrong times partly due to her anxiety problems. As the story progresses, Penny becomes a stronger and more independent person.  Elliot is Penny's best friend and he has many problems of his own such as being denied by his family. He is caring and sweet to Penny however, he quickly becomes jealous when Penny gets too attached to  Noah. Noah loves Penny a lot and is always trying to make her see things in a more positive light. He is very open with her and he cares for her a lot.

I think that the moral of the story is all about being yourself and never pretending to be anyone else. Also to never hide your flaws from anyone. However, a more evident and less philosophical idea would be to never say or do anything (online) which takes away the happiness from someone.

I would rate this book 10/10 because of its realness. It perfectly captures the typical and difficult life of a young woman, providing you with LOL moments and moments where you're ready to get the tissues out! It is definitely a  book I would recommend to anyone out there looking for a touching, moving yet realistic read!

Room Decoration + Organisation!

Hello everyone! So, if you don't already know, we just moved house recently and I had such a fun time buying things for my room. Now, in my old house, my bedroom wasn't very organised or tidy and so I vowed to myself that I would keep the new house as tidy as possible- well my bedroom at least, and so I've come up with ways to organise my bedroom and make everything neat. I thought I'd share with you some ways I've organised my room and I'm going to throw in some decoration ideas aswell!
DISCLAIMER: I am, by no means, an expert when it comes to decoration and organisation, but I thought I'd share with you things I've learnt during my experience!

Don't you just hate it when you have nowhere to put a certain possession without your room looking out of place? Well, in my opinion, deodorant isn't something I would want to display, so I decided to get a little plastic basket to store all my deodorants in. I know this isn't very inventive but it's very effective to store your deodorant neatly and tidily. It prevents them from going all over the place and it's nice to have a clear view of your deodorant storage- i's easy access and it just puts all those annoying things in one place.

Basket-Morrisons
I checked the website but I can't find it, here are some cheap and similar alternatives:

Wait! I found it on Amazon!

Continuing with the basket theme, a great way to store your shampoos and shower gels (and your other bath essentials) is to put them in a basket aswell. You can make the basket look pretty by adding seasonal material to it and also adding things like bath bombs to make it colourful and pretty. I know, another simple idea but it works a treat and looks great too!

Wicker basket- HomeSense
Again, I couldn't find the basket on the HomeSense website so here are some alternatives:

Something else I've done is put all my make-up and nail varnishes in a big cardboard (its sturdy don't worry!) chest. The chest is themed around Paris with....calm? Calm colours? I don't know but they're not over the top colours. Neutral! That's the word! he chest has a mix of neutral colours so it matches with every colour. It looks sweet and organises all your make-up without it looking messy or awkward. It looks great open and closed.

Chest- TK Maxx
Similars:

Other themes:

Because I love Paris so much, I decided to have something similar for my desk. I went for a little black box with a theme of Paris. In this, I keep pens, pencils, erasers, rulers and other desk essentials. It is effective, organised and also adds a little something to your work area.

Box- Not sure but I found some similar ones!

Other themes:

Try typing in 'rectangular trinket box'.

Now, for storage and decoration, these glass jars from IKEA add a nice decoration to your bedside tables and they store whatever you want. I keep things like face creams and oils in these goblets and not only does it look pretty, but it also saves you from having that out-of-place cream bottle sitting on your dressing table.

Here it is!:

A few others...:

Another way to spice up your house is to spice up your doors! I got this pretty and chic bathroom sign from a random pop-up store but I'm pretty sure you can find similar ones. I think it adds to the plainness of your doors and it also comes in quite handy!

Since the shop I purchased this from is unknown, here are some I found, however they are not similar:

And who can forget candles! They are so versatile, allowing you to change the scent according to the season. For the Christmas season, you can light your 'marshmallow frosting' or 'Christmas pudding' candles, meanwhile for summer, you can get out the ocean-y ones!

My favourite candle brand of all time:

And lastly, who could forget a nice seasonal throw. Again you can change it up for any time of the year and it can also add a pop of colour to your bedroom. Get a nice, furry and soft one which would be great for nights in, YouTube binging in your (now) much more exciting bed!

I got mine from Wilkinson's some time ago, so I doubt there'll be any left. However, here are some alternatives. Yet again!

So that's all now! I hope this has helped you to find some inspiration on how to decorate and organise your room. Thanks for reading! Bye!:)

Autumn

Is that how you spell it?^ Because I really don't know. These half term holiday aren't doing any good to my education. LOL.
In this blogpost, I just wanted to talk about Autumn because frankly speaking this is my best time of the year. It's the best season. I love it! It's so cosy and warm and just reminds me of pumpkins and spices. For some, Autumn may be fun because of Halloween but for me its just about how cold it is. This may sound kind of crazy ( which you should be used to by now!) but I love the cold. I would much rather for me to live in the Arctic than in India somewhere. It means things like: hot chocolate, the fireplace (which I don't technically own...), sweaters, jumpers, cardigans, candles, PSL and being able to wear comfy, cosy stuff. Who could forget the crunchy leaves aswell with hues of red and brown combined together...OK you get the message! I'm not gonna go all Shakespearen sonnet on you now.
So that is just a few things of why I like Autumn so much. What do you like about Autumn?:)

Half term and makeover games!

I literally cannot, for the life of me, remember when I last wrote on my blog. You must be thinking where the heckles have you been?! One word for you. Homework. 20 pieces of homework a week-drawing posters, planning assessments, writing essays and descriptive pieces of the Arctic has taken its toll and I'm gradually becoming mental...  Becoming?! I already am!!
But anyways as you can see I have been bombarded from all angles with homework that takes so long and is normally due in for the next day. Oh and don't forget the hour of revision I do everyday.
Year nine is hard work
Why is life doing this to us?
Ok
Bye
Joking
So yes basically the reason why I've been away for so long is homework but now it's the half term holidays which means sleepovers, meet ups and hopefully more blogposts! Oh and of course you can't forget the homework we've been set for the holidays.
IT NEVER ENDS
Quick question for you. Is it just my teachers that get really annoyed when you say the word basically?? Because my teachers would actually give out detentions for using that word if they could. But there's plenty of other reasons for giving out detentions in our school. One late in a whole week is an hour detention after school on Friday with the head of year. I mean!! Come on!! I plan to be a little sick on the Friday we come back...!
Harsh!
It's currently 08:40 and I'm writing this blogpost. I've been up since 06:30 playing makeover games. Makeover games which-OF COURSE- I downloaded for my little cousin.
>.<
That's a face^
If you're wondering
Anywaysssss
As I said it's the half term holidays and I'm currently staying at my cousins house for a sleepover. It's been awesome so far. You should really check her out if you haven't already: girlsjustwannabake.blogspot.com
She's as crazy as you can get around here...!
That's why we get on so well!
The crazy cousins
Yeah....
Moving on...
Ok I have nothing to say...
Just to finish, sorry for not writing for such a long time. School hasn't been a friend exactly but you know, I'm gonna write more on here now since I love writing on my blog.
Ok I'm going to go back and play those makeover games now!
Byeeee :)

A Holiday in Hastings!

Hi guys!
So the Easter holidays have finished and I'm having a hard time...*sniff* We're back at school and it seems to them that the perfect 'welcome back' present is a bunch of assessments which you did not know about, had 2 minutes to plan for and a single lesson to do. I'm talking about my English assessment! We had a mere 50 minutes to write 12 humungo-saurus-t-rex paragraphs. And don't forget that we STILL had to plan the essay. And tomorrow, I have two science tests, ON THE SAME DAY!
Anyways...
I'm eating mango. >.<
Oh yeah! Did I tell you about my holiday in Hastings?
Well it all started on Monday the 14th of April...5 pm on a boring day...My Mum goes to Morrisons...Comes back and tells my brother to look for hotel...at this moment we're confused, befuddled, discombobulated...We turn to Mum and she announces, WE'RE GOING FOR A HOLIDAY IN HASTINGS WITH OUR WHOLE FAMILY! I cannot tell you the amount of excitement that overcame me. It was unreal. We were so excited and packed our suitcases and everything and began the journey to Brighton.
Now, this journey was supposed to take only a couple of hours but instead it took us five hours! Let me picture it for you. So you're sitting in the back of a small and stuffy rented out car thingamabob because our normal car decides to not work the day we're supposed to go on holiday. Yeah, so you're sitting in the back, your annoying little brother on one side and your cousin on the other. You feel ABSOLUTELY BILIOUS because you've just gone and wisely stuffed your face with starbursts and celebrations. You need air so bad, all the windows are down but your little brother finds the 25°C weather too cold so the windows are open a mere crack. You find out that you're actually 3 hours away from your hotel and its hot. You're stuffy. You're annoyed and irritated and you drive on a motorway for 3 hours. Straight.
So you kinda' see why the journey there wasn't too great but OH when we got there, with our hotel right outside the pebble beach, it was all worth it. Your hotel is cool (by this I mean cold. Well not cold because that wouldn't be any better but you get me, right?!) and you share it with your cousin and her little brother. You have a cup of coffee and take pictures of your hotel. It was perfect.
Next we went to the beach and OH MY HOLY DOUGHNUTS, I actually went I the water! For me this is huge because I do not like the water! But I managed to go SO far in and it was freezing and I may have swallowed a bit too much salt but it was the best fun I had ever had in my life. And the fact that I had the best family in the world to share it with made it 1000x better! We spent ages there, taking photos of the sea and the family. It was amazing!
Next we spent around 20 minutes trying to find a good restaurant when we finally found my best buddy, McDonalds where we ate our heart out. After that we went back to the hotel and hung out as a family.
The next day we go to the safari. Now. Can we please take a moment to appreciate the fun-ness of a safari park? It was awesome! We got to see the tigers, lions, leopards, meerkats, gorillas and we went on one of those truck-thingies as well. Everyone loved it to bits!
The best part was the maze! We played for ages in a huge maze at the end of the safari and thanks to my little cousin, we stayed even longer!
The next day, we stayed in the lobby and talked for ages and then we set back to Harrow but how can you not complete a holiday without a much wanted visit to my favourite Asian restaurant, Giftos?
When we got home, I felt so lonely and instantly missed the holiday and my family. I had the time of my life there!
I hope we get to go again sometime!
Bye xx

The annoying journey there....

Some pretty flowers I found...

Tigers!

Lioness...

Place near the maze...

The beach... (MEMORIES!)

Some animal...(I forgot)

Scary Invigilators and Maleficent

Hello everyone! I am actually in the hungriest state I have ever been in right now! I am starving and that nutella sandwich didn't go down so well...
Anyways, this week has been non-stop tests. Maths, English and Science with the scariest 'invigilators' (people who stand over your shoulder during a test a) breathing down your neck and b) making you feel so uncomfortable) of life! I didn't know looks could get so evil!
I also went to watch Maleficent with my Mum and IT WAS SO TOTALLY AMAZINGLY AWESOME! It was such a good twist on Sleeping Beauty and I cried LOADS. I loved everything about it! The storyline was just incredible and YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT!
All week, I've basically been squished against the wall in my tiny 'studying' area revising and revising and revising and revising and revising and revising. Especially for science because let's just say science isn't a strong point...These tests determine the rest of my high school life. Whether I get into foundation or higher, whether I get to do triple science next year, whether I get to do any of my GCSE options... OK, so you get the idea, this tests are really important!
I can't wait for activities week though! At the end of every academic year (don't worry I'm not that posh!) we spend a week just doing activities. Last year we did ice-skating and bowling and there was this really cool science workshop that I thought was going to be rubbish but it turned out to be really fun. We also did African drumming ALL while my brother had to do Zumba! HAHAHAHAHA!
The only thing I didn't like was sports day. And here it comes once again this year on the 15th of July. The day of many tears- especially for me because I'm going to be fasting! With no water or no food for 18 hours in the boiling sun getting sunburnt. Last year I looked terrible- my face just went a bit tanned but then you looked at my nose. I mixture of bright red and burnt skin. It was NOT a nice sight. At least this year we have the option of doing tug of war and then not having to do anything for the actual sports day so I volunteered COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS TO THE FACT THAT I WAS UP AGAINST THE STRONGEST GIRLS IN THE CLASS! I don't think I got any votes!
Anyways, that's it from me now and until next time, bye!x
(god what do I sound like?!)

THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR!

Kung-fu fighting nans and my toad of a brother!

Hey Guys! For ONCE I don't have to apologise for not writing a blogpost for ages. LOL. I'm seriously on a roll! 3 blogposts in one week. But then I DO have to make up for the nearly-one-month break I had. Sorry about that!
Anyways, my nan is staying over and can we just stop for one second to appreciate the kung-fu abilities of nans?! I mean today me, my nan and my toad of a brother (!) were just lying around and y'know just...being there when all of a sudden my toad of a brother decided to leap into an action-packed fight. Me and my brother were hitting each other and punching each other- well he was, I was just using my nails and now he has scratches all over his arms but hey, he started it! My poor gran was in the midst of this violent, spontaneous attack when all of a sudden, my nan jumped up, got the pillows and the most hilarious pillow fight took place. Now that I've actually thought about it, I guess it isn't really kung-fu abilities, is it?!
In my last blogpost- the 30 facts about me thing-a-ma-bob- I mentioned that I have two brothers. My older one- the toad and my younger one- the hippo. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love them, well, the younger one, but sometimes they drive my down the road, round the bend and up the wall! (BTW, I only mean this toad-hippo thing as a joke! OK? Good! Don't start thinking I'm horrible, will ya?!) Yeah, and so today, the hippo and me were actually friends! Normally he beats me up for even looking at him! Where was I? Oh yes, we were friends but then he just HAS to start pretending he's Spiderman and then whenever he jumps around- LIKE A HIPPO (!)- I have to say a bunch of things like: 'OH MY GOD! It's Spiderman, he's come to save the world' or 'Spiderman is so brave and handsome' and all these other things. I mean, c'mon, naturally, you're going to get bored after a few moments, especially when you're soooo tired and can't even keep your eyes open! So in the middle, I kind of shut my eyes and just lay my head down and he comes up to me and starts saying that I'm a mean and horrible sister who just sleeps all day and that he's not my friend anymore because I didn't say anything! Talk about DRAMATIC! I beg him to be my friend but he wouldn't budge and so I give up. I go to ask my mum if I can have popcorn and she says yes and as soon as my little brother hears the word 'popcorn' he comes up to me and starts acting oh-so-sugary-sweet and kissing my forehead and holding my hand. After he gets his little drama out the way, he goes "So, are you going to have the popcorn or what?"! I mean, seriously?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Anyways, I have to run now to go and pray but I'll see you soon.
BYE!XO

Homework Horror and Holidays!

Hello everyone! So I think it has been a little while since I've written my last blogpost. In fact a BIG while! But sorry, I think our school is trying to torture the souls out of our very bodies with all the assessments, revision and last and most definitely least, homework horror. Those irritating little....assignments really....nip at your heels!
Anyways, I currently have two tabs open- one for y'know, typing this blogpost and another tab because I'm watching the AMAZING Ingrid's Apartment Tour on YouTube by missglamorazzi. I know, you really need to know what my computer screen looks like(!) *said in sarcastic tone for people like me who seriously just don't get the whole sarcastic-tone-mabob*
That little ramble aside, I have a very irritating-nipping-at-your-heels cold. OK, I swear, y'know those days where your mum and dad plan to go to look at furniture and you just beg the shell out of them to let you come because your bored out of your skull and then they say yes so you head upstairs and go to brush your teeth -because you haven't already done that (even though its 1 in the afternoon)- but your brothers in the toilet so you go to your room and just lie down in bed for ages until you hear your mum coming upstairs and you race out of bed and start getting changed before she comes into your room so that you can go with your parents to look at furniture and during all this rush, you forget your darn tissues?! Yeah! Those days! And so the whole time, there I was, sniffling away like a lil' ol' grandma before I luckily found a used tissue on the car floor and I use it to wipe away those little bad boogers that come crawling from the depths of your nostril hairs. Boy, talk about graphic!
Don't worry, once you get to know me, I'm not so disgusting!:P
Woah! Its actually really late. I thought it was only like 6 pm. Oh yeah, that's another thing- when you're in school, you know the exact date, time, place your at and all those things that you thought weren't necessary but as soon as it hits the holiday, you're just like: "We're still in 2014, right?". Lollage (new word, courtesy of a fellow crazy cuz!)
I think I should stop moaning now because luck is heading my way! Its the holidays which could only mean on thing- PARTY! Even though I'm invited to zilch, I'll be rocking out the trusty old post-the-letter and turn-the-lightbulbs swag! We have two whole weeks of holidays and then one Monday and Tuesday we don't go school either- God knows why- but hey, at least you aren't going in! On Wednesday we HAVE to go but then on Thursday it's half day which means no double art! In case you didn't realise- that is a crackalackin' good thing!
Anyways, I've got to run- I have to try to persuade my mum to let me watch the Woman In Black now.
Bye!xo
